Hammer Chicken Stock Shortage Cut, After Earthquake and Tsunami

ChannelNasional. The city of Palu, Central Sulawesi, is experiencing a shortage of stock chicken so it must bring the commodity from outside. The Head of Trade in Central Sulawesi's Industry and Trade Office, Zainuddin Hak, in Palu, confirmed on Tuesday that traders in Palu City were supplied with chicken from South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi.

This is because local production is not enough to meet people's needs after the earthquake and tsunami that hit the city about three months ago.
Moreover, he said, there were only a few days left when Christians would celebrate Christmas and the demand for cut chicken would certainly increase than usual. According to him, if only relying on the stock of slaughtered chickens, the production of farmers in Palu and surrounding areas would not be sufficient.

Therefore, traders must bring in from outside the area, although the risks are quite high because they are transported by car to travel for a day. A number of chicken traders in the Masomba Market area, Palu, justify the slaughterhouses sold today mostly from neighboring regions.

"We buy from South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi," said Sri. The risk is quite large, sometimes many chickens die on the trip. "But, the chickens that died on the trip were still fully burdened by livestock owners," he said. A similar sentiment was also conveyed by Eman, that almost three months after the natural disaster, the average trader brought in chicken pieces to meet the needs of the people in Palu City and its surroundings from South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi.

The step is because the stock of chicken pieces in Palu is very limited. Before the disaster occurred, the results of local livestock were able to meet market needs because many farmers were raising livestock. "But, when the earthquake hit Palu, Sigi, and Donggala, many farmers went bankrupt because the cages along with the chickens were damaged and dead," he said. The price of sliced chicken meat per kilogram in Palu is around Rp. 35,000 / kg. Previously only Rp. 25,000 / kg.
